Manama

Manama, The Gulf Observer: Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi held a bilateral meeting with Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand on the sidelines of the third GCC–Canada Joint Ministerial Meeting in Manama.

The meeting focused on bilateral friendship and cooperation and reviewed progress following the Canadian foreign minister’s visit to Muscat in April 2026. Both sides particularly discussed prospects for enhancing economic and scientific partnership, expanding exchange of expertise, and promoting investment and tourism opportunities between Oman and Canada.

The two ministers also exchanged views on the regional situation and prospects for peace, emphasizing the importance of addressing ongoing challenges and mitigating the consequences of violence and escalation in the region.

Following the meeting, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi stated that the Sultanate of Oman and Canada share identical positions on the need to intensify diplomatic efforts and encourage all parties to reach practical, fair, and workable understandings aimed at restoring normalcy.

He underscored the importance of ensuring the safety and freedom of navigation in maritime passages, as well as the uninterrupted flow of supply chains that are vital to regional and global economies.

The Omani Foreign Minister further reaffirmed the consistency of Oman’s longstanding foreign policy, which is based on supporting good neighbourly relations, peaceful coexistence, adherence to international law, and respect for relevant bilateral and multilateral agreements and covenants.
