Azerbaijan Highlights Strategic Role of Middle Corridor and Regional Connectivity at Trans-Caspian Forum

Azerbaijan

Washington, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan has been actively developing the Middle Corridor since gaining independence, according to Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration.

Addressing the annual Trans-Caspian Forum via video link, Hajiyev emphasized that Azerbaijan’s foreign policy has entered a new phase following the resolution of the Armenia–Azerbaijan conflict and the establishment of peace in the region.

He stated that Azerbaijan’s strengthened diplomatic position has opened new dimensions and opportunities for international cooperation and regional integration.

“Azerbaijan is a country of the South Caucasus. At the same time, we belong to the family of Central Asia and the Caspian Sea region. Azerbaijan also has European and Middle Eastern dimensions. These identities do not conflict with each other but complement one another,” Hajiyev said.

He further noted that following the resolution of the Armenia–Azerbaijan conflict, Azerbaijan has adopted a “middle power” concept in its foreign policy approach. He explained that this concept is not defined solely by population size, economic strength, or geography, but rather by building a broad and effective network of partnerships across regions.

Hajiyev underscored that Azerbaijan’s evolving role is increasingly focused on connectivity, cooperation, and multilateral engagement, positioning the country as an important bridge between regions.
