Saudi Arabia Reaffirms Centrality of Palestinian Cause at UN Security Council Emergency Session on Gaza

New York, The Gulf Observer: The Arab Group, led by Saudi Arabia, has reaffirmed that the Palestinian cause remains at the core of the Middle East conflict, during an emergency session of the New York-based United Nations Security Council focused on the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
Delivering the statement on behalf of the Arab Group, Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, emphasized rejection of settlement expansion, land confiscation, forced displacement, and the targeting of civilians. Saudi Arabia reiterated its position that such practices undermine prospects for peace and stability in the region.
He stressed that a just and lasting peace can only be achieved through a two-state solution, calling for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The envoy further rejected all attempts aimed at imposing sovereignty over the occupied territories or altering the legal and historical status of Jerusalem and its holy sites.
Dr. Alwasil also welcomed international diplomatic efforts, including those led by the United States, aimed at securing a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. He underscored the urgent need for immediate, unhindered humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip and rejected the use of aid as a tool of collective punishment or political pressure.
He urged the Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security and to ensure the implementation of its relevant resolutions, including United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334.
In conclusion, the Saudi envoy reiterated the Kingdom’s call for full compliance with international legal obligations to protect the Palestinian people and to support renewed efforts toward achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
