UAE Inaugurates Sheikha Fatima Wing for Gynecological and Obstetric Care at Al-Makassed Hospital
East Jerusalem, The Gulf Observer: UAE Minister of State Khalifa bin Shaheen Al Marar inaugurated Phase One of the H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Wing for Gynecological Surgery and Obstetrics at Al-Makassed Hospital in East Jerusalem, reaffirming the UAE’s continued humanitarian support for the Palestinian healthcare sector.
The initiative seeks to enhance healthcare services for women and children and strengthen the hospital’s capacity to continue providing essential medical and humanitarian services.
Al Marar said the project is being implemented under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and reflects the UAE’s longstanding humanitarian commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and various sectors of Palestinian society, particularly healthcare.
He noted that, through the UAE Aid Agency and in coordination with the World Health Organisation, the UAE is continuing to implement high-impact healthcare initiatives and programmes designed to support medical professionals in Palestinian health institutions and strengthen their capacity to provide healthcare services in line with the highest international standards.
Al Marar highlighted that the UAE has allocated US$25 million to support Al-Makassed Hospital and expand its medical services. The funding is intended to ensure continued access to essential healthcare, improve gynecological and obstetric services, and support the training and development of medical professionals.
The UAE has also provided an additional US$64.5 million financial grant to support the hospital’s operations and medical personnel and to upgrade its facilities.
The new wing has been named after H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the “Mother of the Nation,” Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation. The naming recognises her pioneering humanitarian legacy, longstanding support for women and families, and enduring commitment to humanitarian causes.
The first phase comprises a facility with approximately 50 beds, including delivery and operating rooms equipped with advanced medical technology meeting high international standards. The facility is expected to further strengthen the hospital’s capacity to provide specialised gynecological and obstetric care.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Secretary-General of Erth Zayed Philanthropies; Noura Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the General Women’s Union; Dr. Shamma Al Mazrouei, Acting Director-General of the Mohamed bin Zayed Foundation for Humanity; and Rashid Salem Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Operations at the UAE Aid Agency.
During the ceremony, the attendees toured the newly inaugurated wing, inspected its facilities and medical equipment, and received briefings on the healthcare services that will be provided to women and children.
The project represents another step in the UAE’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to strengthen the Palestinian healthcare system and improve access to essential medical services.
