PM Shehbaz Reaffirms Pakistan’s Commitment to Humanitarian Values, Protection of Vulnerable Groups

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to upholding constitutional values and the highest ideals of humanity, both during times of peace and in moments of crisis.
In a message issued on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day, observed on August 19, the prime minister said Pakistan would continue efforts to ensure that vulnerable segments of society receive the protection and support they deserve and have opportunities to live with dignity.
“Pakistan joins the international community in reaffirming its commitment to the noble values of humanitarian service, compassion, human dignity and solidarity,” the prime minister said.
He also paid tribute to humanitarian workers, institutions and organisations that dedicate their lives to serving humanity and promoting human welfare, according to a press release issued by the PM Office Media Wing.
The prime minister noted that World Humanitarian Day is observed annually in memory of the 22 humanitarian workers who lost their lives in the bombing of the United Nations compound in Baghdad, Iraq, in 2003.
He said the day honours the sacrifices, courage and selflessness of humanitarian workers serving communities affected by conflicts, crises and disasters.
“It is a matter of great pride for us that Pakistan is among those countries that have consistently demonstrated compassion for humanity at the international level and translated this commitment into meaningful action,” he said.
Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted Pakistan’s significant contribution to United Nations peacekeeping missions and its longstanding tradition of extending solidarity and support to people in need within the international community.
He said Pakistan had demonstrated generosity, steadfastness and compassion over decades by hosting millions of Afghan refugees and providing assistance during humanitarian crises at regional and global levels.
“This enduring spirit of humanity, hospitality and mutual support is a true reflection of our national character,” he added.
At the domestic level, the prime minister said Pakistan’s constitutional values and national traditions also embodied a strong humanitarian ethos.
He stressed that protecting the rights and dignity of vulnerable and marginalised segments of society remained among the foremost priorities of the Government of Pakistan.
Through effective measures, he said, the government was working to build an inclusive, equitable and empowered society where individuals have equal access to opportunities without discrimination based on colour or race.
Prime Minister Shehbaz noted that during the past year, the Ministry of Human Rights had translated policy commitments into practical measures through a network of welfare centres, training institutions and protection facilities.
He said the ministry was also taking measures to promote the social inclusion of persons with disabilities and ensure their access to essential civic services and facilities.
The government was further taking special measures to increase women’s participation in social and economic spheres, enabling the full potential of society to be realised without discrimination based on gender, he added.
At the grassroots level, he said, protecting vulnerable and marginalised groups, promoting gender equality, safeguarding children and empowering young people were essential steps toward advancing human rights, social justice and social welfare.
