Denmark Blocks Polymarket and 97 Other Unlicensed Gambling Websites

Copenhagen, The Gulf Observer: Denmark has blocked access to Polymarket, a controversial online betting platform, along with 97 other gambling websites that were found to be operating without the licences required under Danish law.
The Danish Gambling Authority ordered the blocking of the websites, a decision subsequently upheld by the Court of Frederiksberg on the grounds that the platforms did not hold the necessary licences to offer gambling services in Denmark.
Polymarket has attracted international attention for allowing users to place bets on a wide range of events, including geopolitical developments, wars and military conflicts. Its inclusion among the blocked platforms highlights Denmark’s efforts to ensure that gambling activities accessible to residents comply with national licensing requirements.
Minister for Taxation Jakob Engel-Schmidt welcomed the decision, underscoring the government’s position that gambling operators targeting the Danish market must comply with the country’s regulatory framework.
The latest action forms part of Denmark’s continuing efforts to curb unlicensed online gambling and strengthen oversight of digital betting platforms. The Danish authorities have increasingly focused on websites that provide gambling services to Danish consumers without obtaining the required national authorisation.
The court’s decision reinforces the authorities’ ability to restrict access to offshore gambling platforms that do not meet Denmark’s licensing requirements, regardless of the nature of the betting services they provide.
The move is expected to further strengthen Denmark’s regulatory approach to online gambling and protect consumers by ensuring that operators serving the Danish market are subject to the country’s established legal and regulatory standards.
