Baku, The Gulf Observer: First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, accompanied by her daughters Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva, visited the Scientific Research Institute of Pediatrics on August 26.

During the visit, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Health Teymur Musayev briefed First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva on the institute’s activities and its role in safeguarding children’s health.

The Scientific Research Institute of Pediatrics has been serving the important cause of protecting children’s health for more than a century. The facility currently operates as a scientific and methodological center and traces its origins to 1925, when it was established on the basis of a 200-bed children’s hospital. In 1927, it was reorganized into the Institute for the Protection of Mother and Child.

In addition to providing treatment and preventive care for childhood diseases, the institute conducts scientific research, trains professional medical personnel in pediatrics and contributes to the advancement of medical education.

The institute currently has clinical departments with a total capacity of 255 beds, along with scientific and paraclinical divisions. Its 60-bed neonatal resuscitation and intensive care department serves as a central specialized facility for the country.

During the visit, Mehriban Aliyeva and her daughters inspected the conditions created at the medical facility. Medical equipment, including mechanical ventilation devices, was also presented to the institute to support its future activities.
