Sri Lanka Plans to Modernize State Printing Corporation with Advanced Security Technology

Colombo, The Gulf Observer: Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has said the government is planning to strengthen the State Printing Corporation through the introduction of advanced technology and modern security printing capabilities while gradually replacing machinery that is more than 50 years old.

The Prime Minister made the remarks in Parliament on September 8 while responding to a question concerning the operations and future development of the State Printing Corporation.

She said the corporation currently employs 445 permanent staff members and 21 contract employees.

The Prime Minister noted that the State Printing Corporation undertakes a wide range of printing services for both the public and private sectors. These include school textbooks, provincial examination papers, lottery tickets, confidential documents, exercise books and election-related materials.

She said the corporation plays an important role in regulating market prices and maintaining printing standards, while also ensuring the availability of a reliable security printing facility.

According to the Prime Minister, the corporation also helps reduce the government’s printing expenditure and generates revenue for the state through its operations.

Dr. Amarasuriya said any institution could obtain printing services from the State Printing Corporation through a proper procurement process.

She emphasized that the government’s primary focus was to further improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the existing corporation rather than pursue measures that would undermine its operations.

The modernization programme will include the gradual replacement of outdated machinery and the acquisition of new equipment to enhance the corporation’s technological capabilities and security printing capacity.
