Turkmenistan, CIS Discuss 2026 Chairmanship Priorities and Upcoming High-Level Meetings

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a meeting with Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Sergey Lebedev, who arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the 111th meeting of the CIS Economic Council.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on current issues on the CIS agenda and reviewed key areas of cooperation within the Commonwealth.
Particular attention was devoted to the practical implementation of the priorities of Turkmenistan’s CIS chairmanship in 2026, as well as preparations for upcoming events at the high and highest levels.
The sides discussed preparations for meetings of the CIS Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs and the CIS Council of Heads of State, scheduled to take place on October 7 and 9, 2026, respectively, in the National Tourist Zone of Avaza.
In this context, the participants reviewed organizational arrangements for the upcoming high-level meetings and considered the substantive content of their agendas.
The meeting also addressed ways to further improve cooperation mechanisms within the CIS, with particular emphasis on expanding practical cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining constructive cooperation and pursuing joint efforts to further strengthen multilateral collaboration within the Commonwealth.
