Prabowo: BRICS Critical Minerals, Energy Resources Key to Building Green Century

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has said that the critical minerals and energy resources possessed by BRICS countries represent strategic assets for building a green century amid growing climate change challenges.
Speaking at the open session of the 2026 BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, India, on Sunday, Prabowo highlighted the significant natural resources available across BRICS nations and their importance to the global transition toward sustainable development.
“The BRICS countries are in a similar position. Together, we have significant critical mineral and energy sources. We have resources as the foundation of the green century,” Prabowo said.
The Indonesian president noted that his country possesses substantial reserves of critical minerals and rare earth metals, along with new and renewable energy resources, advanced technological capabilities and extensive forests that are vital to environmental sustainability.
Prabowo urged BRICS countries and their partners to view natural disasters not as isolated incidents, but within the broader context of climate resilience and national development.
“We must see the close relationship between climate change resilience and national development. Indonesia is not alone in facing the challenge; many BRICS members and Global South countries face the same related problems,” he said.
He called for collective efforts among BRICS members to address these challenges by combining their resources, production capacities, technological capabilities and markets.
According to Prabowo, such cooperation is consistent with the theme of the 2026 BRICS Summit, “Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth,” which places emphasis on strengthening resilience, advancing innovation, promoting cooperation and achieving sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
“By facing the challenges together, we also bring enormous amounts of resources, productive capacity, technological capabilities and markets,” Prabowo said.
He stressed that effectively harnessing the combined strengths of BRICS members could enable the grouping to make a meaningful contribution to addressing global challenges.
“Therefore, the first step is to recognise the value of our strength and utilise it to help each other,” the Indonesian president concluded.
