Rabat, The Gulf Observer: King Mohammed VI of Morocco received Head of Government Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri at the Royal Palace in Rabat on Wednesday to review progress in forming the country’s new government.

According to an official statement, El Mansouri briefed the King on the progress achieved in the government formation process following her appointment to lead the formation of the new administration.

During the meeting, King Mohammed VI wished El Mansouri success in fulfilling her responsibilities, stressing that the next phase required comprehensive mobilisation and serious, responsible government performance in view of the significant challenges, national priorities and public expectations at all levels.

The monarch appointed El Mansouri following the legislative elections held on September 23, in which the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), whose coordinator is El Mansouri, secured 97 seats.

Following her appointment, El Mansouri announced that consultations would begin within her party before extending to other political parties, with the aim of presenting a government proposal to the King as soon as possible. She emphasised the need to form an administration capable of meeting the expectations of both the monarch and Moroccan citizens.

Since her appointment, El Mansouri has held extensive consultations with political parties represented in Parliament to secure support for the formation of a new government.

On Monday, an agreement was reached to establish a four-party governing majority comprising PAM, the Istiqlal Party, the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) and the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS).

The participating parties are now discussing the allocation of ministerial portfolios, with the announcement of the new government expected in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Morocco’s House of Representatives elected Ahmed Touizi, also a member of PAM, as its new speaker on Tuesday. Touizi secured 220 votes out of 279, succeeding Rachid Talbi El Alami, who held the position during the government led by Aziz Akhannouch.

The ongoing government formation process marks a significant political development for Morocco, as the incoming administration prepares to address national priorities and respond to the expectations of citizens.
