Oman takes part in conference of ministers of culture in Islamic World
Doha, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth took part in the 12th conference of ministers of culture in the Islamic World.
Themed “Towards Renewing Cultural Action in the Islamic World,” the conference is being held at the Qatari capital, Doha from 25 to 26 September 2023.
Sayyid Said bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Culture, head of the Sultanate of Oman’s delegation, said in a speech during the conference that Oman accords a great interest in culture as it is among the pillars of building a modern state. Culture constitutes an identity that plays an essential role in shaping awareness, enhancing social development scheme and human development, he added.
He said, “The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth is implementing national cultural strategies in parallel with the cultural strategy of the countries of the Islamic world. Through such strategies, the ministry is keen to strengthen cultural communication with different countries and organizations at the local and international levels, according to a comprehensive vision that includes diverse programmes highlighting aspects that would convey this Omani culture to the world, and spreading the message of peace and tolerance among the peoples worldwide; a message that the Sultanate of Oman has carried since ancient times”.
In this context, the Undersecretary for Culture added that the Sultanate of Oman hosted the 9th Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers as part of the programme celebrating Nizwa as the Capital of Islamic Culture 2015. The conference aimed to enhance dialogue among cultures, renew cultural policies in the Islamic world and harmonise them with international variables, follow up the implementation of the cultural strategy, develop information and communication technology, and upgrade the role of cultural mediation in Islamic world, he said.
He pointed out that the Sultanate of Oman sought to strengthen the individual’s belonging to his past and legacy, in addition to paying an interest in his present and future.
This is indeed a prominent factor towards the progress and renaissance of society, preserving its gains and adhering to its identity. The Ministry undertakes to consolidate these principles, preserve and develop them in a manner that achieves their continuity, so they are passed on to future generations.
The conference, which is organised by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), addresses many current priority cultural issues and enhances joint cultural action in the areas of cultural planning, indicators of development, developing the programme related to Capitals of Culture in the Islamic World, and confronting illicit trafficking of cultural property.
