Uzbekistan hosts Tolerance Week

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: According to the decision of the UN General Assembly, since November 16, 1997, it has become an excellent tradition to celebrate the International Day for Tolerance annually.

In Uzbekistan, the Committee on Interethnic Relations and Friendly Ties with Foreign Countries under the Ministry of Culture and the Committee on Religious Affairs, together with several organizations, is holding Tolerance Week on November 13-19 under the motto “Enlightenment and Interethnic Tolerance”. Cultural, spiritual, enlightenment, scientific, and practical events will be held.

At the ceremony of laying flowers at the Independence Monument, representatives of different nations and religious faiths spoke about the need to take care of the interethnic harmony and tolerance reigning in the country.

The exhibition “New Uzbekistan Begins with a Book and a Library” presents works of poets and writers of different nationalities. The collection “Uzbekistan – My Happiness, My Destiny” was presented.

“Ensuring interethnic harmony, tolerance, and solidarity in society, strengthening literary cooperation and interfaith dialogue, developing friendly, equal and mutually beneficial relations with foreign countries are identified as a priority task in the concept of state policy in interethnic relations of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, says Committee Chairman Rustambek Kurbanov. “In this regard, deeply thought-out practical measures are being implemented. It should be noted that these reforms and changes are based on constitutional rights and guarantees”.

The event aims to instill in young people a love for the Motherland, responsibility for the country’s fate, education in the spirit of devotion to national and universal values, and a love of books.

Exciting events, conferences, exhibitions, and festive events will run until November 19.
