Jokowi Applauds Vietnam Automotive Company’s Investment in Indonesia
Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: President Joko Widodo extended a warm welcome on Saturday to VinFast, the Vietnam-based automotive company, for its proposed investment in Indonesia. The President conveyed his optimism regarding the company’s participation in fortifying the archipelago’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem. Acknowledging the potential for collaboration in advancing sustainable transportation solutions, President Widodo expressed confidence in the positive impact of VinFast’s investment on Indonesia’s automotive sector and the broader promotion of environmentally friendly mobility initiatives.
“We fully support the investment plan of VinFast in Indonesia. You can coordinate with my ministers regarding the issuance of related permits,” Jokowi, as the president better known, told VinFast chairperson Pham Nhat Vuong, according to a statement released by the Presidential Secretariat here.
Jokowi met Vuong at the VinFast office in Haiphong city during his working visit to Vietnam.
After meeting Vuong, he visited VinFast’s EV factory to observe the manufacturing process of eco-friendly vehicles. Thereafter, he tested the cockpit of an electric car produced by VinFast.
Following his review, Jokowi described VinFast as an automotive company that has been growing rapidly.
“This industry (company) has been growing very rapidly. They will place their capital in Indonesia soon,” he said.
He then expressed the hope that the presence of VinFast in Indonesia would be integrated with the industry of EV batteries to help the country develop a suitable ecosystem for EVs.
“As I have repeatedly said, we hope that we will be able to immediately create a big ecosystem (for EVs). The chairman of VinFast said that the company would soon begin construction,” he added.
During the visit, President Widodo was accompanied by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Presidential Staff chief Moeldoko, Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam, Denny Abdi, and a member of the Presidential Advisory Council, Gandi Sulistyanto.
CEO of VinFast, Nguyen Viet Quang, was also present during President Widodo’s visit.
