President Ilham Aliyev

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said that Azerbaijan’s participation in European institutions has provided the country with direct experience of what he described as challenges and injustices within European organizations.

Speaking at a meeting in Baku with participants of international conferences, President Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan is among the relatively few Muslim-majority countries participating in European organizations.

“As a member of the Council of Europe, we faced these injustices, we face them and we likely will face them,” the Azerbaijani President said.

He further stated that Azerbaijan would continue to face what he described as an undeclared campaign aimed at discrediting the country.

President Aliyev stressed that Azerbaijan would not compromise its position in response to external pressure, emphasizing the country’s determination to uphold its national dignity, express its views independently and protect its way of life.

“We do not and will not bow before anyone. We speak our mind, we protect our national dignity and we protect our way of life,” he said.

The President’s remarks underscored Azerbaijan’s stated commitment to pursuing an independent foreign and domestic policy while defending its national interests and values in its engagement with international organizations.
