H.H. Sheikha Latifa Opens 17th Edition of Art Dubai

Dubai, The Gulf Observer: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, inaugurated the 17th edition of ‘Art Dubai’ today. The premier international art fair for the Middle East and Global South is set to run from March 1 to March 3 at Madinat Jumeirah, with VIP previews on February 28 and 29.

Featuring over 120 contemporary, modern, and digital galleries, Art Dubai continues to solidify its position as a leading international platform that seamlessly blends digital and contemporary art. The event plays a crucial role in enriching Dubai’s creative landscape and establishing the city as a regional and international hub for cultural innovation.

Sheikha Latifa emphasized the significance of Art Dubai as a premier international platform for artistic innovation. She commended the exhibition for serving as an intellectual and artistic platform, attracting creatives worldwide to share experiences and groundbreaking ideas, thus spotlighting breakthrough artistic trends. She stated, “Innovation is at the core of Dubai’s essence, as we continually shape the future of cultural and artistic creativity through our dynamic initiatives, programs, and events, reflecting our city’s forward-looking approach.”

Art Dubai has consistently expanded the scope of artistic exploration and innovation, becoming a recognized vibrant artistic movement regionally and internationally. Sheikha Latifa praised the exhibition’s success and increasing eagerness of artists from various countries to participate, establishing it as a platform for creativity and innovation.

During her tour of Art Dubai, Sheikha Latifa was briefed on the diverse program awaiting art enthusiasts. She commended the organizers for fostering a creative platform that enhances Dubai’s status as a cultural hub, engaging with local and international artists, innovators, and cultural partners. She highlighted the shared optimism for the artistic sector’s future in Dubai and the emirate’s significant efforts to promote the arts and integrate technology within the sector.

Art Dubai, part of the Dubai Art Season 2024, features over 120 contemporary, modern, and digital galleries, with more than 65% representing the Global South. The event boasts the most significant number of Dubai-based exhibitors yet, reinforcing the emirate’s growth as a commercial art center.

Art Dubai Digital, Art Dubai Modern, and Bawwaba are key sections of the exhibition, providing platforms for new media and digital art, exploring the forces that shaped today’s Global South, and presenting solo presentations of new artwork, respectively.

Benedetta Ghione, Executive Director of Art Dubai, highlighted the event’s role in redefining the contribution an art fair can make to advancing a creative economy. She emphasized Art Dubai’s focus on capacity building and fostering opportunities for artists and creatives, embodying the innovative spirit that distinguishes Dubai and its diverse communities.
