Uzbekistan, South Korea Sign Landmark Bilateral Agreements
Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: In a historic development, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan and President Yoon Suk Yeol of the Republic of Korea concluded fruitful negotiations, resulting in a robust package of bilateral agreements. This milestone was marked by the signing of a Joint Statement on further deepening and comprehensive expansion of the special strategic partnership between the two nations.
The state visit saw the formalization of 17 significant documents, underscoring the depth and breadth of cooperation between Uzbekistan and South Korea. Key agreements include:
- Intergovernmental Agreement with the Economic Development Cooperation Fund: This agreement aims to bolster economic development initiatives, reflecting the mutual commitment to sustainable growth.
- Agreements with the Export-Import Bank of Korea and Hyundai Rotem: These agreements pertain to the purchase and supply of high-speed electric trains, enhancing Uzbekistan’s transportation infrastructure.
- Agreement with the Export-Import Bank of Korea: This accord focuses on providing equipment for science and information, and communications education in high schools, aiming to modernize and enhance educational facilities.
- Innovative Pharmaceutical Cluster “Pharma Park” Project: An agreement on the implementation of this project, signaling advancements in the pharmaceutical sector.
- Cooperation Agreement in Strengthening Civil Servants’ Capacity: This agreement aims to enhance the skills and efficiency of civil servants in Uzbekistan.
- Cooperation Program between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (2025-2027): A strategic plan to foster closer diplomatic ties over the next three years.
- Protocol on WTO Cooperation: A commitment to collaborate within the framework of the World Trade Organization.
- Cooperation Protocol in Culture: An agreement to promote cultural exchanges and mutual understanding.
- Cooperation Agreement in Transport: Enhancing connectivity and transportation systems.
- District Heating Systems Modernization: An agreement to modernize district heating systems in various regions of Uzbekistan.
- Partnership Agreement in Critical Minerals: This agreement addresses the strategic partnership in the mining and utilization of critical minerals.
- Uzbekistan – Korea Joint Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation: An agreement to facilitate the activities of this committee, promoting bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
- Memorandum of Cooperation on Training Qualified Personnel: A focus on training and developing a skilled workforce.
- Memorandum of Cooperation in Agriculture: Enhancing agricultural practices and cooperation.
- Interbank Master Credit Line Agreement: An agreement between Uzbekistan Industrial and Construction Bank and the Export-Import Bank of Korea to establish an interbank master credit line.
