AI Action Summit in Paris Concludes with Global Declaration on Ethical AI Development

Paris, The Gulf Observer: The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Summit, convened in Paris on Tuesday, brought together representatives from 61 countries to establish a unified vision for the ethical and inclusive development of AI.
The summit resulted in a joint declaration calling for AI to be “open, inclusive, transparent, ethical, safe, secure, and trustworthy,” aligning with international frameworks to ensure responsible technological advancement. Notably, the United States and the United Kingdom opted not to sign the final communique, drawing attention to their divergent stance on certain provisions.
Among the signatories of the declaration were China, France, and India—the summit’s co-hosts—alongside numerous other nations. Key recommendations from the meeting emphasized enhancing international dialogue to prevent AI monopolies and ensuring equitable access to AI technology. The summit also underscored the necessity of sustainable AI development, both in terms of its societal impact and environmental footprint.
The absence of U.S. and U.K. endorsements of the declaration sparked discussion. A spokesperson for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated, “You’d only ever expect us to sign up to initiatives that we judge to be in our national interest,” noting that while the U.K. disagreed with some provisions, it remained committed to ongoing collaboration with international partners.
As part of efforts to promote sustainable AI, the summit announced the establishment of a global observatory under the International Energy Agency to monitor AI’s energy impact. Additionally, a Sustainable AI Alliance was launched, bringing together leading companies to develop environmentally friendly AI technologies.
French President Emmanuel Macron, closing the summit, highlighted the significance of these initiatives, stating that balancing regulation with innovation is crucial to fostering global trust in AI. “Ensuring AI’s responsible development while harnessing its potential is a shared priority,” he emphasized.
The AI Action Summit marked a significant step in shaping the global discourse on AI governance, setting the stage for further international cooperation on this transformative technology.
