AI Innovation and Vietnam – A Beacon of Technological Renaissance
Vietnam is rapidly emerging as an AI powerhouse and is driving the region and the world to become a digital economy and an exciting hub of AI innovation. Vietnam’s youthful population, strategic government vision, and entrepreneurial spirit not only are driving the adoption of AI but also are leading the way in developing solutions to meet its needs, as well as supporting global progress. My exclusive article celebrates the remarkable strides Vietnam has made in AI, highlighting a future brimming with prosperity, inclusivity and human-centric advancement.
A Nation Vision in the Era of AI
Vietnam’s AI revolution is one of huge promise and significant progress. The country is one of the fastest-growing markets for AI in Southeast Asia, as per several reports. Its AI market, representing approximately $0.75 billion in 2024, is expected to grow immensely and there are positive forecasts of significant growth until 2030 and beyond. Vietnam’s high level of confidence and acceptance of AI in society (ranking 3rd globally in confidence and 5th in acceptance per the World AI Index 2025) is an evidence to a people who are keen to use technology to improve their lives.
This enthusiasm goes hand in hand with national strategy. The National AI Strategy was introduced in 2021 and is continually being revised, and has made AI a key part of the “Fourth Industrial Revolution”. Resolution 57 and subsequent policies focus on AI as a strategic technology, with a view to Vietnam becoming one of the three Southeast Asian countries leading the way in AI by 2030. The groundbreaking law on Artificial Intelligence, which entered into force in December 2025 and introduced in 2026, offers a comprehensive, risk-focused approach to AI that strikes a balance between innovation and safety and ethics. Along with that is the “Digital Technology Industry Law”, which is also one of the first laws in Vietnam to dedicated digital governance.
Through initiatives such as National Technology Innovation Fund (NATIF), regulatory sandboxes, AI vouchers for SMEs, public investment is increasing rapidly. The development of national data centers, sovereign cloud infrastructure and a national AI supercomputing platform highlights technological sovereignty and open collaboration. These steps are paving the way for a responsible environment for innovation to flourish in businesses as well as in citizens.
The visionary companies are driving the AI success in Vietnam. Among the many, FPT Corporation’s AI Factory is one of the most impressive projects, in collaboration with NVIDIA. These cutting-edge systems, which feature state-of-the-art GPUs, are already included in the top 500 supercomputers in the world. FPT’s AI Agents process millions of interactions per month, automating processes and improving the revenue of their clients by up to 20%. Their contributions to computer vision, natural language processing, and industry-specific models are a testament to the ingenuity of Vietnam in addressing local challenges and expanding its reach on a global stage.
Both VNPT and Viettel are impressive. VNPT has successfully developed more than 40 AI models that can be applied to real-world issues such as traffic monitoring, license plate recognition, and fire detection, even earning accolades at international computer vision conferences. Viettel is also progressing towards the development of large language models (LLMs) and infrastructure such as semiconductors, which will provide strong national capabilities in fields like defense, medical treatment, and smart cities.
VinAI and VinBrain are bringing innovations that resonate worldwide from Vingroup. The DrAid platform of VinBrain is helping doctors with diagnosis in hospitals around the world, and can identify many diseases with an amazing accuracy, significantly reducing the diagnostic cost. Through these initiatives, Vietnam is demonstrating its capabilities in the field of AI for healthcare, enhancing access to quality care.
New players are bringing some life into the ecosystem. AI Hay is an AI-powered Q&A social network developed by home-grown engineers, which has been downloaded more than 15 million times across the major app stores, and is one of the top AI apps in the world for education. It is more attractive to users than several foreign counterparts in Vietnam. It has a higher user engagement rate than several other international competitors in Vietnam. Among other achievements are the voice AI solutions of Vbee helping millions of users, ELSA Speak changing the language learning experience and AI-driven credit solutions of Trusting Social improving fintech. In 2023, the number of active AI startups received a boost in funding, reaching $10 million, and was to be higher in 2024 with $80 million and more in 2025. With more than 500,000 engineers and developers, this lively scene is second to only Singapore in the region.
Transformative Applications Improving Lives Daily
The benefits of AI are seen in various industries. Healthcare: AI can assist in early detection and personalized treatment, relieving healthcare workers and bridging the gap in access. In Healthcare, AI can aid in early diagnosis and tailored treatment, making the lives of healthcare providers easier and providing better access to treatment for those who have been underserved. In the field of education, tools like AI Hay and ELSA revolutionize the learning process by making it engaging and accessible to future generations. Intelligent agents, such as VietinBank’s Genie, effectively manage large volumes of queries, enhancing customer experiences and streamlining operations in finance. Businesses are driving efficiency and sustainability in manufacturing and logistics with predictive analytics and automation. AI applications are applied to smart cities projects in the fields of traffic control and urban planning, improving the quality of life. Personalization is empowering e-commerce and retail to grow. These applications are not theoretical; they offer real-world advantages, such as time-saving, cost-effectiveness and inclusiveness.
AI adoption in Vietnam skyrocketed, with just 13% to 18% of enterprises adopting AI in a year, up to approximately 170,000 businesses now using this technology. AI adoption has accelerated at a pace of five companies adopting AI tools each hour, resulting in 39% year-on-year market growth. Talent Management: The Human Foundation of AI Success
The greatest asset of Vietnam is its people. Recognizing the need of skilled professionals, the Vietnam AI Academy has been established in Hanoi University of Science and Technology, with NVIDIA, to train thousands. They have a target of scaling to 8,000-10,000 learners per year and much more ambitious programs to help achieve hundreds of thousands of people who are AI-proficient. Vingroup’s pledge of supporting 20,000 AI talents with stipends is another testament to the national capacity-building investments that are made by the corporations.
Universities are undergoing curricular changes and partnerships with global leaders guarantee world-class standards. Such a human-centric approach, highlighting ethical considerations, creativity, and the acquisition of practical skills, ensures that AI remains a tool for society and not its replacement. The younger generation of engineers and entrepreneurs are leading the way, bringing in Vietnamese culture, language, and values to develop models such as sovereign LLMs that are suitable to Vietnam. Infrastructure, Global Partnerships and Economic Horizons
Innovation is supported by investments in high-performance computing, data warehouses and GPU clusters (by 2030, to enable massive capacity). Collaboration with NVIDIA, Qualcomm, SAP and others adds cutting-edge know-how and strengthens local capabilities.
In terms of economy, AI can make a substantial impact, with the potential of creating new jobs, boosting productivity, and generating new industries, up to 6% of GDP by 2030. Vietnam has created a competitive and cooperative atmosphere to attract foreign direct investment, and it has become an excellent choice for AI destinations. This upward trend is reflected in its ratings in the global AI readiness indices.
Vietnam’s AI Renaissance – A Bright Future
AI in Vietnam is a story of hope, determination and achievement. All of this from government foresight, enterprise excellence, grassroots innovation and talent development, are all pushing towards a prosperous, tech-powered nation. While there are challenges to be faced, the tide is turning, and this society sees AI as a means to empowerment and progress.
Vietnam is a country that cherishes its traditions and culture, and is also moving forward to the future with a spirit of confidence and determination. Vietnam is a place of ancient culture and traditions and is also progressing towards the future with confidence and resolve. “Made in Vietnam” AI solutions shine as beacons of hope for sustainable development, economic success, and human well-being in a world anxiously awaiting their promise. From just being a revolution of innovation, AI is now pushing Vietnam to the next level and providing a model for how to move forward optimistically and resiliently in a world of innovation.
As Vietnam continues its AI journey, the nation’s progress in this era of possibility serves as a testament to the power of technology to shape a better future, driven by vision, collaboration, and a sense of purpose. It’s just beginning and the best is yet to come.
