Algeria Participates in Ninth OIC Ministerial Conference on Women in Islamabad

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Algeria participated in the Ninth Ministerial Conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Women, held in Islamabad on July 12–13, reaffirming its commitment to advancing women’s empowerment and strengthening cooperation among OIC member states.

His Excellency Ambassador Brahim Romani represented Algeria at the conference, which brought together nearly 190 delegates from the 57 OIC member states, including ministers, senior government officials, women leaders, and representatives of OIC institutions and international organizations working on women’s issues.

Chaired by Pakistan’s Minister for Human Rights, Azam Nazeer Tarar, the conference focused on enhancing cooperation among member states to promote women’s empowerment and expand their participation in social, economic, political, and professional spheres as part of efforts to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development across the Islamic world.

Participants also reviewed progress made in implementing the resolutions and recommendations adopted during previous ministerial conferences, while exchanging views on strengthening policies and initiatives aimed at improving the status of women.

The conference was inaugurated under the patronage of Chairman of the Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, who attended as the guest of honour. During the evening session, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif attended as the guest of honour alongside Pakistan’s Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja.

In their addresses, the Pakistani leaders highlighted the country’s initiatives, achievements, and policy measures designed to enhance women’s participation and leadership across various sectors, including education, technology, governance, and economic development.

The two-day conference concluded with the adoption of the Resolution of the Ninth OIC Ministerial Conference on Women and the Islamabad Declaration, reaffirming the collective commitment of OIC member states to advancing women’s rights, empowerment, and inclusive development throughout the Muslim world.
