Omani Environment Chief Commends Algeria’s Experience in Ecological Projects

Algiers, The Gulf Observer: Chairman of Oman’s Environment Authority Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri has praised Algeria’s experience in rehabilitating degraded environmental sites and transforming them into ecological and recreational spaces.

During a visit to the Oued Smar Ecopark in Algiers, Al Amri reviewed Algeria’s efforts to restore environmentally degraded areas and reintegrate them into the urban landscape.

The Oued Smar project involves the rehabilitation of a former landfill site and its transformation into an urban park and ecological space. The initiative aims to protect the environment, restore degraded land and improve the quality of life for local residents.

Al Amri highlighted the significance of Algeria’s experience as a potential model for other Arab countries. The Arab Council of Environment Ministers has also welcomed the project and encouraged the wider adoption of similar approaches across the Arab region.

The visit underscored opportunities for strengthening cooperation between Algeria and Oman in environmental protection, circular economy development, climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation and the exchange of technical expertise.

Oman is participating as the guest of honour at the 10th International Exhibition for Waste Recovery and Recycling (REVADE 2026), held in Algiers from October 8 to 10 under the theme of a sustainable circular economy. The event brings together Algerian and international participants to explore sustainable waste management and environmental solutions.

The visit reflects the shared interest of Algeria and Oman in promoting environmental sustainability and exchanging experiences in ecological restoration, waste recovery and sustainable development.
