Algerian Government Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Ties with Diaspora in Canada

Ottawa, The Gulf Observer: As part of his ongoing working visit to Canada, the Secretary of State held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Commissioner of the National Community Abroad, Mr. Sofiane Chaib, alongside members of the Algerian national community residing within the consular district of the Embassy of Algeria in Ottawa. The extensive meeting took place at the Embassy headquarters in the Canadian capital.

On this occasion, the Secretary of State underscored that Algeria accords special importance to its citizens abroad, considering them an integral part of the national fabric. He emphasized the commitment of the country’s highest authorities to protect Algerian nationals overseas, strengthen their connection with the homeland, and enhance their contribution to national development efforts.

Mr. Chaib highlighted that the Algerian community in Canada is distinguished by high-level competencies and diverse expertise. He stressed that facilitating the participation of these skilled professionals in various national development initiatives is a key priority within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ action plan, given their valuable qualifications and capabilities.

He further reiterated that improving services for Algerian citizens abroad remains a top priority for the Ministry. In this context, he pointed to ongoing efforts to modernize the consular system and accelerate digital transformation, aimed at ensuring a qualitative improvement in consular services, including at the Consular Section of the Embassy of Algeria in Ottawa.

The Secretary of State also outlined initiatives aimed at strengthening the bond between members of the diaspora and their homeland, particularly through the organization of events and visits to Algeria for youth and students under the supervision of diplomatic missions. He noted that these efforts have contributed to the establishment of the Algerian Student Federation in Canada.

In the same context, he referred to ongoing preparations for the opening of an Algerian Cultural Branch in Montreal, which is expected to further promote Algeria’s cultural presence and enhance its visibility and influence in Canada.
