Algeria’s President Tebboune Inaugurates First Fully Digital Pediatric Cardiac Hospital

Algiers, The Gulf Observer: Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Sunday inaugurated a specialized hospital for pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery in the municipality of Mahelma, west of Algiers, as part of the celebrations marking the 64th anniversary of the country’s Independence and the recovery of national sovereignty.
The newly established healthcare facility, with a capacity of 80 beds and covering an area of 22,000 square metres, is expected to significantly strengthen Algeria’s national health system by expanding specialized treatment for children and newborns suffering from congenital and acquired heart diseases.
Equipped with advanced medical technology and staffed by specialized Algerian healthcare professionals, the hospital provides comprehensive services through seven main departments, including pediatric cardiology, pediatric cardiac surgery, anesthesia and resuscitation, vascular surgery and organ transplantation, medical imaging and radiology, a central laboratory, and a pharmacy.
The facility also includes an emergency department, a cardiac rehabilitation unit, a blood transfusion centre, diagnostic and therapeutic catheterization units, and a fully equipped radiology department featuring MRI, CT scan, X-ray, and ultrasound services.
The hospital’s first floor accommodates inpatient wards and administrative offices, while the second floor houses three operating theatres, an intensive care and resuscitation unit, an infant care unit, and a medical equipment sterilization section. A dedicated playroom has also been established to provide psychological support for young patients. Technical and logistical services are located on the basement level.
To support medical education and research, the institution features a teaching wing comprising a 170-seat lecture hall, two classrooms with seating capacity for 90 students each, a meeting room, and a library.
Supported by qualified medical, paramedical, and administrative personnel, the hospital has adopted a fully integrated digital system, making it Algeria’s first 100 percent digital hospital. The digital infrastructure enables telemedicine services and virtual medical lectures, marking a major milestone in the country’s healthcare modernization efforts.
