Aliyev, Mirziyoyev Reaffirm Strategic Partnership and Deepen Bilateral Cooperation

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on May 18 on the sidelines of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed gratitude to President Mirziyoyev for participating in WUF13, noting that his presence reflected the strong fraternal and friendly relations between the two countries and their peoples.
Recalling their previous meetings, President Aliyev said that several projects discussed earlier between the two leaders are now being actively implemented. He also highlighted the construction of the Uzbekistan Park in Baku as a symbol of bilateral friendship.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed pleasure at visiting “friendly and brotherly Azerbaijan,” and congratulated President Aliyev on successfully hosting the global urban forum. He said the event provides an important platform for discussing key issues in urban development and thanked the Azerbaijani side for the invitation.
Mirziyoyev noted that on each visit to Azerbaijan he witnesses continued development and praised the construction of new cities and villages in Karabakh, describing it as a significant achievement under President Aliyev’s leadership.
He further stated that Azerbaijan’s post-war reconstruction efforts and national achievements reflect the leadership and dedication of the Azerbaijani head of state.
In response, President Aliyev thanked him for the remarks and highlighted Uzbekistan’s support in the reconstruction of Karabakh. He particularly mentioned the Mirzo Ulugbek Secondary School No. 1 built by Uzbekistan in Fuzuli, calling it the first gift in the region’s reconstruction process and a symbol of brotherhood and solidarity.
During the meeting, the leaders fondly recalled their reciprocal visits and previous engagements, reaffirming the strong momentum in bilateral relations.
Both sides reviewed ongoing economic cooperation projects in line with presidential instructions, expressing satisfaction with their implementation. The discussions covered collaboration in energy, mining, agriculture, mechanical engineering, pharmaceuticals, and other sectors.
The two leaders reaffirmed that relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are of a strategic alliance nature and emphasized the successful and expanding cooperation across all fields.
