Azerbaijan Playing Leadership Role in Shaping New South Caucasus Geopolitical Order, Says Official

Baku, The Gulf Observer: A new geopolitical reality is emerging in the South Caucasus, with Azerbaijan playing a central leadership role in shaping regional developments, according to a senior Azerbaijani official.
Speaking at an event titled “New Geopolitical Realities in the South Caucasus: Azerbaijan and the Peace Agenda” in Baku, the Chairman of the Center for the Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center), Farid Shafiyev, said the President of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani state are acting as key architects of the evolving regional order.
He noted that one of the main areas of attention is the political developments in Armenia, including the outcomes of its recent elections. According to him, the results indicate that Armenian society supports the continuation of the peace and normalization process.
Shafiyev stated that Azerbaijan’s “legitimate demands and expectations remain unchanged,” adding that the country has consistently taken decisions based on its national interests in line with the changing geopolitical environment.
He further emphasized that the current regional dynamics are the result of Azerbaijan’s principled policy approach and asserted that durable peace can only be achieved if Azerbaijan’s positions and demands are fully addressed.
The remarks come amid ongoing discussions on peacebuilding and normalization efforts in the South Caucasus region following years of conflict and shifting political alignments.
