Azerbaijan, Zimbabwe Discuss Expanding Bilateral Cooperation and Parliamentary Ties

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan and Zimbabwe have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with senior officials holding talks focused on expanding political dialogue, parliamentary cooperation, and collaboration across a range of strategic sectors.

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov, met on July 7 with a Zimbabwean delegation led by Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Francis Nzwidamilimo Mudenda to discuss ways to deepen cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, the two sides explored opportunities to enhance collaboration in education, tourism, mining, agriculture, and public service delivery through Azerbaijan’s ASAN Khidmat model, alongside other areas of mutual interest.

Bayramov reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening relations with African countries, emphasizing that reciprocal high-level visits and parliamentary diplomacy play an important role in advancing bilateral partnerships. Both sides also stressed the importance of maintaining close cooperation and mutual support within international organizations.

The discussions highlighted Azerbaijan’s initiatives during its chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement and the outcomes of COP29, underscoring their contribution to advancing the interests of developing countries.

Bayramov congratulated Zimbabwe on its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term and expressed Azerbaijan’s readiness to work closely with Harare during its tenure on the Council.

The two delegations also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation within the United Nations, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and other multilateral platforms, while supporting the principles and norms of international law.

During the meeting, Bayramov also briefed the Zimbabwean delegation on the regional situation, the post-conflict peace process, and Azerbaijan’s ongoing reconstruction and development efforts in its liberated territories.
