Belarus and Myanmar Strengthen Economic Ties with New Cooperation Initiatives

Minsk, The Gulf Observer: Economic projects should serve as the driving force of Belarus-Myanmar cooperation, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko stated during expanded-format talks with Chairman of the State Administrative Council and Prime Minister of Myanmar, Min Aung Hlaing.
“I support your vision that economic projects in the most promising areas should become the driving force of our cooperation,” President Lukashenko remarked.
During the meeting, both leaders formalized agreements in key sectors such as information security, justice, and agriculture. President Lukashenko expressed Belarus’ willingness to explore further areas of collaboration, stating, “If you are interested in something else, let us know. We will consider your proposals and will try to do whatever we can. No topics are off-limits for us.”
A joint business forum was held in Belarus during the visit, where the two sides discussed cooperation in industry, logistics, and the supply of equipment, medicines, and foodstuffs. President Lukashenko highlighted Myanmar’s interest in tractor and agricultural machinery production and offered to establish assembly plants in the country, ensuring swift implementation if desired.
In a significant step towards enhancing bilateral trade, Belarus and Myanmar have decided to reactivate the Belarus-Myanmar Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which last convened 12 years ago. President Lukashenko emphasized the importance of defining cooperation prospects and implementing a joint action plan.
Additionally, Belarus proposed revisiting a draft intergovernmental agreement on scientific and technological cooperation and suggested establishing a joint commission on innovation and technology.
President Lukashenko also expressed appreciation for Myanmar’s decision to send observers to Belarus’ recent presidential election, offering to reciprocate by sending Belarusian observers to Myanmar’s upcoming elections.
The visit marks a crucial step in deepening economic and diplomatic ties between Belarus and Myanmar, reinforcing their commitment to mutual growth and collaboration.
