Canada Affirms Enduring Partnership with Vietnam

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Minister of International Development Ahmed Hussen affirmed Canada’s enduring commitment as a “strong, long-term, and reliable economic and development partner” to Vietnam during an event in Hanoi.

Acknowledging Vietnam’s rapid economic growth and diversification, he emphasized Canada’s recognition of Vietnam as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.

Since the early 1990s, Canada has contributed nearly US$1.8 billion to support Vietnam’s initiatives for poverty reduction, inclusive growth, particularly for women and girls. Minister Hussen highlighted Canada’s commitment to continuing its partnership with Vietnam for sustainable and inclusive development.

Vietnam holds a pivotal position in Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, with a commitment of CAD$40 million to support various projects, including social impact investing, gender-sensitive and climate-smart infrastructure, and resilience in coastal communities.

Emphasizing the importance of empowering women and girls, Minister Hussen praised the role of people-to-people exchanges and thanked the Vietnamese Canadian community for fostering stronger ties. The event also marked the launch of the book “Lasting Legacy: 30 Years of Development Cooperation between Canada and Vietnam,” available in Vietnamese, English, and French, showcasing the bilateral relations’ growth over three decades.
