China and UK Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation on Energy, Technology and Climate Change at 10th Strategic Dialogue

London, The Gulf Observer: China and the United Kingdom have agreed to deepen their bilateral cooperation in key sectors such as energy, technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and climate change, as part of the 10th China-UK Strategic Dialogue held in London on Thursday.
The dialogue was co-chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy. During the session, the two sides reached a consensus on a roadmap for future exchanges, with key visits and initiatives planned to further strengthen ties.
Among the key developments announced were upcoming visits from the UK minister for energy security and net zero, the UK minister for science, research and innovation, who will attend a China-UK innovation cooperation meeting, and the UK minister for education, who will participate in China-UK education ministerial consultations. Both parties also agreed to expedite preparations for the China-UK Joint Economic and Trade Commission, alongside mechanisms to enhance healthcare and industrial cooperation.
Furthermore, both countries emphasized the need to boost collaboration in areas including global governance, cybersecurity, financial services, and AI, and reaffirmed their commitment to the Paris Agreement on climate change. The two sides acknowledged the importance of advancing green transitions and mitigating the impact of climate change through joint efforts.
In his remarks, Wang Yi acknowledged the differences in political systems, history, and culture between China and the UK but emphasized the importance of objective, rational dialogue based on mutual respect. He reiterated China’s view of the UK as a critical strategic partner and expressed the country’s commitment to advancing practical cooperation across various fields.
David Lammy underscored the importance of the UK-China relationship, particularly in light of rising global challenges, and called for enhanced strategic communication between the two nations to contribute to global peace and stability.
The dialogue also included discussions on sensitive issues, with Wang elaborating on China’s positions regarding Taiwan, Hong Kong, and other regional concerns. Both sides exchanged views on the ongoing Ukraine crisis, with Wang stressing the importance of preventing the conflict from spreading and calling for efforts toward peace talks. He also advocated for the creation of a balanced, effective, and sustainable European security framework.
The two sides further discussed the situation in the Middle East and other global issues of mutual interest, highlighting the shared commitment to addressing international challenges through constructive cooperation.
