China to enhance comprehensive ties, deepen cooperation with Türkiye: FM Wang Yi

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced that China is prepared to work with the Turkish government to enhance cooperation in various fields, aiming to contribute positively to regional peace and global development. Wang made these remarks during a meeting with Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Beijing on Tuesday.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized that fostering comprehensive, deep, and high-level China-Türkiye relations aligns with the fundamental interests of both nations and their peoples. He affirmed China’s steadfast support for Türkiye’s independent and autonomous development path, its efforts to safeguard sovereignty, security, and development interests, and its backing of Türkiye’s stance on issues related to China’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.

Wang called for the effective use of bilateral cooperation mechanisms, such as the China-Türkiye Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee, to enhance synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and Türkiye’s Middle Corridor initiative. He highlighted China’s willingness to expand imports of high-quality Turkish agricultural products, support ongoing advancements in bilateral cooperation, and strengthen ties in culture, education, tourism, and aviation.

Additionally, Wang affirmed China’s commitment to reinforcing coordination with Türkiye within multilateral frameworks like the United Nations. He stressed opposition to hegemonism, power politics, and unilateral practices that disrupt global supply chains, advocating instead for a fair and reasonable global governance system.

Foreign Minister Fidan expressed Türkiye’s dedication to developing its relationship with China, adherence to the one-China principle, and support for China in safeguarding its core interests and major concerns. He underscored Türkiye’s opposition to any actions that undermine China’s sovereignty and its refusal to support confrontational or suppressive measures against China’s development.

Fidan praised China’s stance on issues such as Ukraine and the Middle East, expressing Türkiye’s readiness to collaborate with China in contributing to regional and global stability and prosperity. Both sides also exchanged views and aligned their positions on international and regional issues of mutual concern, including Ukraine and Palestine.

Following the meeting, the ministers jointly addressed the press, with Wang noting satisfaction with the momentum of China-Türkiye relations and the significant consensuses reached on advancing bilateral relations and international cooperation.
