China’s State Council Prioritizes River Protection, Child Welfare, and Nuclear Safety in Executive Meeting

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Sunday chaired a State Council executive meeting to advance national priorities on ecological protection, child welfare, healthcare reform, and nuclear energy development.
The session emphasized coordinated efforts to strengthen the protection of rivers and lakes, focusing on improving the quality of water resources, aquatic environments, and ecosystems. While acknowledging progress in China’s aquatic systems, the Council called for a targeted, scientific, and law-based approach to pollution management. Measures will include enhanced monitoring, source tracing, and curbing of excessive emissions to address environmental degradation at its root.
On the welfare of children in difficult circumstances, the Council underscored the importance of a people-centered approach to policy. Premier Li called for prioritizing children’s development through robust service systems that ensure access to healthcare, education, mental health support, and basic living needs.
The meeting also approved in principle the draft of a new healthcare security law, which aims to enhance the national healthcare system and safeguard public access to medical services. The draft will now be submitted to the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress for further review and legislative action.
In a significant move for the country’s energy strategy, the Council approved new nuclear power projects, including a major installation in Sanmen, Zhejiang Province. The meeting stressed that absolute safety remains the top priority in China’s nuclear development. Projects must adhere to the highest global safety standards, with continued enhancement of safety oversight and supervision capacities.
This multifaceted meeting reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, social welfare, and secure technological advancement, setting a strategic course for high-quality development in key sectors.
