COP29 Presidency Launches COP29 Academy to Engage Youth in Climate Action

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The COP29 Presidency is actively assessing the potential impact of the upcoming COP29 conference on Azerbaijan and its capital, Baku. Scheduled to be held from November 11 to 22 this year, Azerbaijan aims to leverage the event to contribute significantly to global climate action while ensuring tens of thousands of visitors enjoy the best of Baku’s hospitality and experience.

In line with these objectives, the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company has announced the launch of a pioneering initiative – the COP29 Academy. This project is designed to engage young people in combating climate change and raising ecological awareness.

The COP29 Academy’s mission is to identify and support university graduates with exceptional professional skills, leadership abilities, and deep knowledge of climate and sustainability. These young leaders will play a crucial role in informing society about the critical importance of sustainability.

Through a robust program of mentoring, ongoing professional development, and personal growth opportunities, the Academy will provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote sustainability within their communities. The Academy invites applications from graduates in any field. Registered participants will have the chance to attend seminars with specialists to enhance their competencies in communication, project management, professional behavior, and other soft skills.

Participants selected for the COP29 Academy will be recruited by the Operating Company and will contribute as staff members during COP29. This involvement offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in organizing a major international event and to network with global leaders in climate action.

Eligible candidates must have graduated from accredited universities in 2023 or 2024, be Azerbaijani citizens, currently unemployed, active in their communities, and possess advanced foreign language skills. Interested individuals can register by filling in the form at COP29.az by June 22, 2024. Selected candidates will be invited for interviews. Further information about the program is available at COP29.az, via email at academy@cop29.az, or through the hotline +994125352928.

COP29 in Baku is expected to have a profound impact not only on young people but also on the broader workforce in Azerbaijan. The COP29 Presidency is committed to ensuring that the conference leaves a lasting legacy of achievements in Baku and beyond, including human capital development, infrastructure improvements, and support for sustainable development initiatives.
