Erdoğan, Trump Discuss Defense Cooperation, Regional Conflicts in Key Phone Call

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye held a telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday, reaffirming Ankara’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Washington, particularly in the field of defense industry, according to a statement from the Turkish Communications Directorate.
During the call, the two leaders exchanged views on a wide range of issues including Türkiye–U.S. bilateral relations, regional dynamics, and global developments. President Erdoğan expressed support for President Trump’s approach to conflict resolution and welcomed efforts to revive diplomatic negotiations with Iran. He also voiced appreciation for initiatives aimed at ending the ongoing Russia–Ukraine conflict.
In reference to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, President Erdoğan emphasized the urgent need for uninterrupted humanitarian assistance and reiterated Türkiye’s readiness to provide all necessary support to facilitate a ceasefire and establish lasting peace in the region.
Touching upon the situation in Syria, the Turkish president reaffirmed his country’s commitment to the territorial integrity of Syria and to the broader goal of achieving regional stability. He noted that U.S. efforts to ease sanctions on Syria could play a constructive role in advancing peace at both regional and international levels.
President Erdoğan also extended a formal invitation to President Trump to visit Türkiye. In response, President Trump described the conversation as “very good and productive,” expressing optimism about enhanced cooperation. He further stated that he looks forward to hosting President Erdoğan in Washington, D.C., in the near future.
The discussion underscored the shared willingness of both nations to pursue diplomatic solutions and strengthen strategic ties in an increasingly complex global environment.
