Dubai, The Gulf Observer: The Gate of Sudan Festival, held at Expo City Dubai, served as a vibrant cultural platform celebrating the rich heritage of Sudan and the enduring bonds between the Sudanese and Emirati peoples. The event showcased Sudanese cultural diversity while reinforcing historical ties and mutual appreciation between the two nations.

Amin Gafar, Head of the Sudanese Diaspora in the UAE, emphasized the festival’s significance as a channel for cultural exchange. “The event reflects the historical depth of Sudan-UAE relations and affirms the Sudanese community’s longstanding presence in the country—dating back to before the formation of the Union,” Gafar said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

He noted the Sudanese community’s reputation for strong social cohesion and active engagement in the UAE’s social and cultural spheres. Gafar highlighted that many Emiratis hold deep admiration for Sudanese culture, frequently visiting Sudan to experience its diverse cities and traditions firsthand.

Sudan’s rich cultural and geographic diversity, encompassing over 140 languages and 400 tribes, was presented as a source of civilisational richness and national identity. Gafar also praised the role of the Sudanese Social Club, established in 1974, which has grown to six branches across the UAE with support from the nation’s leadership—enhancing cultural integration and strengthening ties of brotherhood.

Ahmed Hamrawi, founder of the Emirates Loves Sudan platform and general coordinator of the festival, described the event as a community-led initiative designed to build bridges between Sudanese residents, Emiratis, and the wider multicultural population of the UAE.

The festival drew strong public interest, with an outpouring of enthusiasm from the community even before programme details were officially released. The event featured captivating performances, including those by Sudanese singer Nancy Agag, the Marsimba Band, and cultural showcases by Dr. Omar Al Amin, a Sudanese community member born in the UAE.

Adding to the cultural exchange, prominent Emirati figures such as media personality Abdullah Ismail and artist Tareq Al Menhali participated. Al Menhali performed a traditional song from western Sudan, symbolizing the heartfelt connection between the two cultures.

The Gate of Sudan Festival stands as a testament to the cultural synergy between Sudan and the UAE, celebrating unity through art, heritage, and shared values in a diverse and inclusive environment.
