Helsinki Launches Competition to Find New Owner for Iconic Haltiala Farm

Helsinki, The Gulf Observer: The City of Helsinki has announced the launch of a competition to identify a new owner and operator for Haltiala Farm, a beloved visitor attraction situated along the Vantaanjoki River in Tuomarinkylä, northern Helsinki. The Urban Environment Committee will discuss the concept competition and the sale of farm buildings during its meeting on March 18.
Haltiala Farm, known for its scenic agricultural charm and diverse animal population, including cows, sheep, goats, and chickens, is an iconic destination for both locals and tourists. The city’s vision for the future of the farm includes preserving its agricultural character while opening doors to new business opportunities such as agritourism, accommodation, or recreational services.
Entrepreneurs with experience in animal farming or related fields are encouraged to participate by submitting proposals. The successful bidder will acquire the farm’s buildings and animals, with the commitment to undertake renovation work. The city has also suggested that the new owner might consider incorporating environmental education and cultural history services, while maintaining the farm’s core identity.
The Haltiala, Kellarimäki, and Niskala areas encompass 29 protected buildings, with open plots available for future development. Any new construction, including a potential replacement for Haltiala’s former main building, will require approval from the City Museum to ensure preservation of cultural heritage.
This initiative reflects Helsinki’s commitment to sustainable development and cultural preservation, while fostering new economic opportunities through innovative business models.
