High Commission of Malaysia Hosts Annual Engagement with MTCP Alumni and Graduates of Malaysian Universities

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: On 3 June 2026, the High Commission of Malaysia in Islamabad hosted its annual engagement programme with alumni of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) and graduates of Malaysian universities under the theme “Malaysia–Pakistan Relations in a Changing Regional Landscape: Opportunities and Challenges.”
The event brought together MTCP former participants, graduates of Malaysian institutions of higher learning, government officials, academics, media representatives, and policy experts to discuss contemporary regional developments and their implications for Malaysia–Pakistan relations.
In his welcoming remarks, H.E. Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, highlighted the importance of MTCP as one of Malaysia’s flagship initiatives for promoting capacity building, knowledge sharing, and South-South cooperation among developing countries.
The High Commissioner noted that Pakistan is home to nearly 850 MTCP participants and tens of thousands of graduates of Malaysian universities, representing an important network that continues to contribute to strengthening bilateral relations between Malaysia and Pakistan.
“This annual engagement reflects our commitment to maintaining close ties with our friends and partners who have studied, trained, and built lasting connections with Malaysia. Beyond professional and educational linkages, these individuals serve as valuable bridges between our two countries and play an important role in fostering greater mutual understanding and cooperation,” he said.
The High Commissioner further emphasised that this network represents one of the strongest people-to-people pillars of Malaysia–Pakistan relations and remains a valuable resource for advancing bilateral cooperation across various fields.
The programme also featured a forum involving distinguished Pakistani experts and alumni of MTCP and Malaysian universities, who exchanged views on evolving regional dynamics, emerging opportunities and challenges, and prospects for enhanced cooperation between Malaysia and Pakistan. Discussions also covered issues relating to regional stability, economic cooperation, policy developments, and contemporary geopolitical trends.
Participants further exchanged views on regional security issues and the importance of promoting dialogue, diplomacy, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts. Particular attention was given to developments affecting regional stability and their broader economic and geopolitical implications.
The High Commission reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening educational, technical, and people-to-people cooperation with Pakistan, while continuing to engage this network as an important partner in advancing bilateral relations.
