High-Level Meeting Launches Trans-Caspian Coordination Platform for Transport Crossings in Ashgabat
Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: A high-level meeting was held at the Archabil Hotel in Ashgabat to officially launch the Trans-Caspian Coordination Platform for Transport Crossings. The event brought together prominent figures including EU Commissioner for International Cooperation Jutta Urpilainen, Advisor to the Director-General of the European Commission for International Cooperation Henrik Holloway, and representatives from various ministries of Turkmenistan and neighboring Central Asian nations, along with international financial institutions such as the Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the World Bank.
The new coordination platform aims to enhance the sustainability of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor, transforming it into a robust multimodal route connecting Europe and Asia. This initiative seeks to boost investment in key infrastructure—railways, roads, and ports—while also strengthening economic ties between Europe and Central Asia.
Foreign representatives highlighted the critical role of expanded transport connectivity and infrastructure in promoting regional economic growth. The platform’s joint work will focus on technological innovations in the transport sector to further improve security and sustainability.
The meeting concluded with expressions of confidence that cooperation within the platform will significantly advance the development of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor, aligning efforts for the successful implementation of mutually beneficial projects.
Expanding international cooperation in transport and communication has become a central priority of Turkmenistan’s state policy, spearheaded by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and based on initiatives by National Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty.
