ICC Welcomes Mauritius as 111th Member, Expanding Global Cricket Family

Edinburgh, The Gulf Observer: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved the admission of Mauritius as its 111th member during the ICC Annual Conference in Edinburgh, marking another significant milestone in the governing body’s efforts to expand the global reach of cricket.
With the decision, the Mauritius Cricket Federation becomes the ICC’s 99th Associate Member and the 23rd African nation to join the global cricket body. The move reflects the ICC’s continued commitment to promoting the sport in emerging cricket nations and creating greater opportunities for participation and development worldwide.
During the Annual Conference, the ICC Board also approved several key governance and administrative measures. A Governance Review Committee was established, comprising Devajit Saikia of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Dr Mohammed Moosajee of Cricket South Africa and ICC Independent Director Dr Ros Rivaz, to strengthen governance across the organisation.
The Board further constituted a Franchise Leagues Committee, chaired by Bangladesh Cricket Board representative Tamim Iqbal, with members including Dr Rudie van Vuuren (Cricket Namibia), Devajit Saikia (BCCI), Richard Gould (England and Wales Cricket Board) and Todd Greenberg (Cricket Australia), to oversee matters relating to franchise cricket competitions.
In another significant decision, the ICC approved a loan of US$12.82 million to Cricket West Indies to support the member board. The Board also endorsed reinstatement conditions for Cricket Canada, which will remain suspended until it fully complies with the ICC’s governance and membership requirements.
The decisions taken at the Annual Conference underscore the ICC’s focus on strengthening governance, supporting member boards and fostering the continued growth and development of cricket across established and emerging markets.
