Ilham Aliyev, Shavkat Mirziyoyev Visit Ismail Samani Mausoleum

Bukhara, The Gulf Observer: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, First Lady Ziroatkhon Mirziyoyeva and members of their families visited the historic Ismail Samani Mausoleum in Bukhara on Monday.

The mausoleum is regarded as one of the oldest surviving Islamic architectural monuments in Central Asia. Built between the late ninth and early 10th centuries, the monument is renowned for its distinctive architectural design and intricate brickwork.

Baked brick was used as the principal construction and decorative material in the mausoleum. Researchers have identified 18 different types of brickwork incorporated into the structure, reflecting the architectural sophistication of the period.

According to historical tradition, Ismail Samani, the founder and one of the most prominent figures of the Samanid dynasty, is buried at the mausoleum alongside his father and grandson.

The visit highlighted the leaders’ appreciation of the rich historical and cultural heritage shared by Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and the wider Central Asian region.
