King Abdullah II, Xi Jinping Discuss Strengthening Jordan-China Strategic Partnership

Amman, The Gulf Observer: His Majesty King Abdullah II held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Monday, focusing on ways to strengthen the Strategic Partnership between Jordan and China and reviewing the latest regional and international developments.

The talks, attended by Their Royal Highnesses Prince Hashem and Princess Salma, highlighted the longstanding relations between Jordan and China, which span nearly five decades and are based on mutual respect, shared values and cooperation across political, economic and humanitarian fields, according to a Royal Court statement.

King Abdullah reaffirmed Jordan’s readiness to further expand cooperation with China across a wide range of sectors. He said his visit to Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen had provided an opportunity for productive discussions on enhancing economic cooperation in key areas, including agriculture, pharmaceuticals, food and engineering industries, tourism, education and culture.

The King said the agreements and memoranda of understanding signed between the two countries demonstrated their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations. He also expressed Jordan’s appreciation for China’s development and economic growth model and its constructive role on the international stage.

The discussions also covered developments in the Middle East. King Abdullah stressed the importance of comprehensive de-escalation and regional stability, noting that Jordan and China share the objective of achieving peace and prosperity for the peoples of the region.

President Xi, for his part, said that throughout more than 49 years of diplomatic relations, China and Jordan had consistently respected each other, treated each other as equals and pursued mutually beneficial cooperation.

He said further developing China-Jordan relations with greater substance and vitality reflected the shared aspirations of the two peoples. Xi reaffirmed China’s readiness to uphold the countries’ longstanding friendship, enhance strategic mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and strengthen coordination.

The Chinese president also underscored the importance of achieving a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution.

President Xi commended Jordan’s efforts to promote regional stability and reaffirmed China’s support for the Hashemite Custodianship over Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Sami Smeirat, Jordan’s Ambassador to China Hussam Husseini and China’s Ambassador to Jordan Guo Wei attended the talks.
