Indonesia, Morocco Advance Halal Certification Cooperation to Boost Bilateral Trade

Halal Certification

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia and Morocco have discussed practical steps to implement their recently signed mutual recognition agreement (MRA) on halal certification, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral trade and expanding cooperation in the global halal industry.

The discussions took place during a meeting between Head of Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) Ahmad Haikal Hasan, Morocco’s Secretary of State to the Minister of Industry and Trade in charge of Foreign Trade Omar Hejira, and Moroccan Ambassador to Indonesia Redouane Houssaini in Jakarta.

The meeting followed the signing of the mutual recognition agreement on halal certification in May 2026 and focused on accelerating its implementation to facilitate trade, improve market access for halal-certified products, and strengthen the halal product assurance systems of both countries.

Hasan said the cooperation would not only reinforce halal product assurance mechanisms in Indonesia and Morocco but also create mutually beneficial opportunities across multiple sectors while supporting Indonesia’s trade balance.

He noted that the agreement would simplify halal certification procedures, reduce technical barriers to trade, and encourage greater business collaboration between companies in both countries. The initiative is also expected to enhance consumer confidence in halal-certified products and contribute to the development of a more integrated global halal ecosystem.

The Indonesian and Moroccan delegations also explored opportunities to deepen economic cooperation by increasing the exchange of halal products and promoting investment in the rapidly growing halal industry.

The implementation of the mutual recognition agreement is expected to facilitate the acceptance of halal certificates issued by the respective authorities, making it easier for businesses to export certified products while ensuring compliance with each country’s regulatory standards.
