Indonesia Poised to Lead Muslim World Through Humanitarian Diplomacy and Global Workforce Expansion

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia should leverage its position as the largest economy among Muslim-majority countries to take on a leadership role in the Muslim world, according to Deputy Foreign Minister Anis Matta.
Speaking at a send-off ceremony for an Indonesian humanitarian team bound for Palestine on Thursday, Matta emphasized that Indonesia can assume this leadership role by extending assistance to other nations.
“To lead is to give, and one of the instruments of diplomacy that the Foreign Ministry is employing is humanitarian diplomacy,” he stated.
The Foreign Ministry has begun coordinating humanitarian efforts with non-governmental organizations, including the Dompet Dhuafa Foundation, which organized the Palestine humanitarian team. Matta noted that a USD 200 million fund is expected to be raised for Palestine as part of these efforts.
Additionally, Indonesia’s humanitarian diplomacy will extend to the Balkans, with Croatia identified as a key focus. The deputy minister revealed that Croatia’s mufti has proposed the development of an Islamic center, and Indonesia will support its establishment through Indonesian Aid assistance.
Expanding Skilled Workforce Opportunities
Matta also highlighted increasing international demand for Indonesian skilled workers, particularly in the European hospitality sector.
“Albania has requested 20,000 workers, while Hungary and Germany have asked for 15,000 each. Similar requests are also coming from other European countries,” he informed.
To meet this demand, the Indonesian government will collaborate directly with vocational schools nationwide. According to Matta, this initiative will enhance the activity and effectiveness of Indonesia’s vocational education system while expanding job opportunities abroad.
The deputy minister further expressed hope that the deployment of skilled Indonesian workers in Europe would contribute to strengthening the Indonesian diaspora across the continent.
The remarks underscore Indonesia’s commitment to playing a more proactive role in global humanitarian efforts and international workforce development, reinforcing its position as a key player in the Muslim world.
