Indonesia Unveils New Passport Design Reflecting National Identity

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Indonesia has unveiled the design of the country’s new passport, coinciding with the celebration of Independence Day. The announcement was made by Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly during an event in Jakarta on Saturday.
The new passport design features a change in color from blue-green to the national colors of red and white, symbolizing the Indonesian flag. “The choice of colors, red and white, shows our identity,” Minister Laoly stated, emphasizing the importance of the design in representing Indonesia’s national pride.
Each page of the new passport will showcase 33 motifs of traditional Indonesian fabrics, further highlighting the country’s rich cultural heritage. Additionally, the security features of the passport have been significantly enhanced to meet the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
“A passport’s strength is determined by its security features; it must not be easily forged,” Laoly remarked, underlining the importance of security in protecting the integrity of the document. He noted that the redesign aims to reinforce both personal and national identity, ensuring that the Indonesian passport is recognized and respected worldwide.
“When we enter other countries, they will immediately know that this is an Indonesian passport,” Laoly added.
The distribution of passports with the new design is scheduled to begin on August 17, 2025. The delay is due to the need to deplete the current stock of old-design passports. The ministry’s Director General of Immigration, Silmy Karim, noted that the official launch of the new passport will take place next year, following necessary preparations including the printing process, policy updates, distribution logistics, and system setup.
