Iran-Russia Relations to Remain Unaffected by Iran-U.S. Talks, Says Foreign Minister Araqchi

Moscow, The Gulf Observer: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi reaffirmed that Iran’s strategic relations with Russia will not be influenced by ongoing diplomatic developments, particularly the indirect talks between Tehran and Washington. His remarks came during a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Friday.
Calling his discussions with both President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Lavrov “constructive,” Araqchi emphasized that Iran-Russia ties remain strong and are continuing on a positive trajectory. “We are on the right path. Our countries have regular and close consultations, and we are well on our way to long-term cooperation,” he said.
The Iranian diplomat highlighted the significance of the comprehensive strategic cooperation deal signed between the two countries, noting that bilateral relations have reached a strategic level. He also expressed hope that Russian President Putin would visit Tehran within the current year, following Iran’s official invitation.
Araqchi praised the Russian State Duma and Federation Council for ratifying the long-term cooperation agreement and noted that the treaty is currently on the Iranian Parliament’s agenda for final approval and implementation.
Addressing the upcoming indirect talks between Iran and the United States in Rome, Araqchi said Iran will participate with “seriousness and full determination.” However, he expressed skepticism about the intentions of the U.S. side, stating that the possibility of a deal depends on their commitment and approach.
“If there is enough seriousness and determination, it is likely that a deal can be achieved. We are fully prepared for a peaceful solution to Iran’s peaceful nuclear program,” he stated. “If the other side avoids unrealistic demands, reaching an agreement is entirely possible.”
Araqchi also commended Russia’s constructive role in the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and expressed confidence that Moscow, along with Beijing, would continue to support efforts toward a renewed agreement.
“We will continuously keep our friends in Russia, and of course China, informed about the developments,” he concluded, adding that their input will play an important role in moving the process forward.
