Iran Slams Paraguay Over IRGC Designation, Calls Move ‘Illegal and Unjustifiable’

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iran has strongly condemned the Paraguayan government’s recent decision targeting the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), calling the move a “humiliating action” and a violation of international law.
In an official statement, Issa Kameli, Director General for the Americas at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, denounced the decision as illegal, unjustifiable, and in clear contravention of international norms. He expressed deep regret over what he described as Paraguay’s alignment with the anti-Iran agenda of the “genocidal and occupying Israeli regime.”
Kameli further stated that the political step taken by Paraguay was part of a “dangerous heresy” orchestrated under pressure from Israel, intended to deflect global attention from the unfolding humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
He emphasized that such acts amount to complicity with alleged war criminals, referring to Israeli officials whom Iran claims are under investigation by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The remarks come amid heightened tensions over Israel’s actions in Gaza and a growing divide among nations over the designation of Iran’s IRGC, which several Western and allied countries view as a terrorist organization, while others reject such classification.
Kameli concluded by asserting that the Paraguayan government bears full international responsibility for what he termed an “unlawful and politically motivated decision.”
