Iran Urges BRICS to Prioritize Economic and Financial Cooperation

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iran has called on the BRICS group of emerging economies to elevate economic and financial cooperation as a central focus of the bloc’s agenda. Majid Samadzadeh Saber, an advisor to the Iranian foreign minister, made the remarks on Wednesday during a summit of BRICS national representatives in Yekaterinburg, Russia.

In his address, the Iranian official emphasized the importance of strengthening economic ties between BRICS member states and advocated for the creation of an “agile and cost-effective” secretariat to streamline the bloc’s operations. Samadzadeh Saber called for focused efforts on enhancing economic cooperation and improving the efficiency of BRICS activities to meet the growing challenges of the global economy.

The summit, known as the Sherpa meeting, was organized to assess Russia’s year-long presidency over BRICS and set the priorities for the upcoming year under Brazil’s leadership. The gathering serves as a key platform for reviewing the group’s strategies and advancing cooperation across various sectors.

Sergei Ryabkov, Russia’s deputy foreign minister and chair of the meeting, also addressed the summit, underscoring BRICS’ role as a driving force in the transition toward a more multipolar and multilateral global system. He emphasized the bloc’s commitment to shaping a more equitable international order in response to the evolving dynamics of global power.

As discussions continue, Iran’s call for enhanced economic collaboration reflects its ongoing efforts to deepen ties within the BRICS framework, reinforcing its support for a more inclusive and balanced global economic structure.
