Iranian and French Presidents Discuss Strategies for Establishing Ceasefire in Lebanon
Tehran, The Gulf Observer: In a phone conversation on Sunday evening, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and French President Emmanuel Macron engaged in discussions aimed at halting hostilities and establishing a ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement.
During their dialogue, Pezeshkian and Macron exchanged insights regarding the escalating situation in West Asia, particularly focusing on southern Lebanon, where Israeli forces have initiated a ground offensive accompanied by extensive airstrikes.
President Pezeshkian emphasized Iran’s commitment to regional security and expressed support for a ceasefire to put an end to the ongoing violence. He noted that Iran has demonstrated restraint following Israel’s assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in July, which occurred in Tehran. This restraint was exercised in anticipation of promises made by Western leaders to facilitate a ceasefire in Gaza and to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
However, Pezeshkian criticized the Israeli regime for intensifying its attacks in Gaza and broadening the conflict to Lebanon, asserting that these actions indicate a disregard for humanitarian and international law.
The Iranian president welcomed any proposals aimed at restoring tranquility, peace, and stability in the region. He urged Macron to continue collaborating with other European nations to pressure the Israeli regime to cease its military actions against Gaza and Lebanon.
Furthermore, Pezeshkian acknowledged France’s recent condemnation of Israeli actions in Lebanon and its decision to impose an arms embargo on the Israeli regime, describing these developments as positive steps toward addressing the ongoing crisis.
