Iranian President Expresses Sympathy for China Following Devastating Earthquake in Tibet

Tehran, , The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed his condolences and sympathy to the people and government of China following a powerful earthquake that struck Tibet, resulting in the deaths of at least 126 people.

In a post shared on his official account on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, President Pezeshkian conveyed Iran’s “sincere sympathy” to the “friendly country, China.” The earthquake, measuring 6.8 in magnitude, struck Tibet on Tuesday, causing widespread destruction in the region.

President Pezeshkian, in his message, also offered Iran’s readiness to send humanitarian aid to the affected areas, demonstrating solidarity with the Chinese people in their time of need. The post, shared in both Persian and Chinese languages, highlighted Iran’s commitment to assisting China during this challenging time.

According to Chinese media reports, the earthquake, which struck near Shigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city, resulted in at least 188 people being injured. Emergency rescue operations were swiftly launched, and by Wednesday afternoon, over 400 people who had been trapped under rubble had been rescued. However, an unknown number of individuals remain unaccounted for, and freezing temperatures are complicating rescue efforts. The tremor was so intense that it was felt across neighboring countries, including Nepal, Bhutan, and India.

As the situation continues to unfold, both local and international rescue teams are working to provide assistance and search for survivors in the quake-affected areas.
