Kazakhstan Prioritizes AI, Logistics and Barrier-Free Trade During EAEU Chairmanship
Cholpon-Ata, The Gulf Observer: Kazakhstan has reaffirmed that the development of artificial intelligence (AI), expansion of logistics infrastructure, digital transformation, and barrier-free trade remain the country’s key priorities during its 2026 chairmanship of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a restricted-format meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Cholpon-Ata, Bektenov said Kazakhstan is consistently promoting the use of AI, the establishment of modern logistics hubs, digitalization of industry and agriculture, and stronger economic cooperation with external partners in line with the strategic vision outlined by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The meeting brought together the prime ministers of Armenia, Belarus, and Russia, the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, and the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission to discuss measures aimed at strengthening regional economic integration.
Bektenov emphasized that EAEU member states are focused on maintaining macroeconomic stability, enhancing the region’s economic potential, improving living standards, expanding intra-union trade, and eliminating barriers within the common market. He expressed confidence that the agreements reached during the meeting would contribute to achieving these objectives while reinforcing mutually beneficial cooperation among member states.
The council also reviewed issues related to food security, trade and economic cooperation with major EAEU partners, and strategies for creating favorable conditions to expand the presence of EAEU products in new international markets.
Highlighting the importance of the agricultural sector, Bektenov noted that the new financial assistance mechanism for agriculture, approved by EAEU leaders at the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting in Astana earlier this year, would support agricultural production, promote mutual trade, and encourage joint investment projects across the union.
Kazakhstan assumed the rotating chairmanship of the EAEU in 2026 and has identified artificial intelligence, logistics modernization, digitalization, and deeper economic integration as the central pillars of its agenda for the regional bloc.
