Kazakhstan to Establish Three Joint R&D Centers in Energy, AI and Digital Data Storage

Astana, The Gulf Observer: Kazakhstan plans to establish three joint research and development (R&D) centers specializing in alternative and renewable energy, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital data storage technologies.

The relevant agreements were signed on the sidelines of the international AI & Digital Bridge 2026 forum, according to the Kazakh Ministry of Energy.

The initiatives are aimed at strengthening international scientific and technological cooperation and accelerating the digital transformation of Kazakhstan’s fuel and energy sector.

The joint R&D centers are planned to be established at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in cooperation with Chinese research and technology organizations.

The first center will be established in partnership with PowerChina Chengdu Engineering Corporation Limited and will focus on alternative and renewable energy. Its activities will include applied research, the development and implementation of innovative energy technologies, joint scientific and technical projects, and the training of qualified specialists.

A Kazakhstan-China R&D Center for the Applied Use of Artificial Intelligence will also be established in cooperation with Fudan University. The center will focus on developing, adapting and testing AI solutions for Kazakhstan’s energy, industrial, oil and gas, transport and other economic sectors.

Dominor Partners Limited is expected to participate as a strategic industrial partner, helping bridge scientific developments with practical economic requirements.

The third joint R&D center will be established in cooperation with Shenzhen EAGET Innovation Technology Co., Ltd. and will specialize in digital data storage technologies.

The center will conduct applied research and development, support the creation and implementation of advanced data storage technologies, undertake joint scientific and technical projects, and develop expertise in modern digital infrastructure.

The Ministry of Energy will coordinate the initiatives within the energy sector and facilitate cooperation among the scientific community, international technology partners and industry organizations.

According to the ministry, the projects are expected to promote the transfer of advanced technologies, strengthen specialist training and facilitate the practical application of innovative solutions in Kazakhstan’s fuel and energy sector.
